Since Sammy's on Henry opened, I ate there a dozen times and every time was a transforming experience, until 2 days ago. Neil Ganic, who's usually in the kitchen, wasn't there. The chef who was there was not at all bad, but nowhere near Ganic's level. I understand that Ganic is a consultant and not expected to be there that long. Does anyone know if this is the case? I love having such a great, affordable place so close to home, and it would be a pity if the quality slipped. The dishes were good, but not great. the crabcake was a little burnt, the seafood curry oversalted and blander than usual. The sauteed fish a friend had was good, but the sauce was just OK. When Ganic cooks the sauces never fail to be extraordinary. Is this a glimpse of the future, or just an off night?
