In my perpetual pursuit of expedient and efficient deliciousness, I recently splurged and bought an Instant Pot 7-in-1 Electric Pressure Cooker. Naturally, the cookbook 'hound in me demanded the purchase of several new cookbooks. While it's definitely possible to use recipes written for stove-top models with an electric PC, they typically must be adapted to account for the loss of some power and speed.
Rather than experimenting with and tweaking old recipes, I'd prefer to set myself up for success by working with recipes specifically written for use with an electric PC.
I've love some company in learning to use this newfangled appliance.
Please join me in cooking with your electric pressure cooker and posting about your experiences here! Really, you can cook from any book or any recipe and any model of pressure cooker, but please note the following in your post:
- Name of the recipe (links are great), page number if you'd like
- Title and author of the cookbook (or other publication)
- The model and capacity of pressure cooker you used
- Which variation of the recipe you used, if applicable(for instance, if the recipe gives you options for natural release or quick release or whatever, please note which you tried)
- Any modifications you made to the recipe
- And, of course, your thoughts about the process and the outcome and what you might change next time.
FYI, the cookbooks I have and plan to be cooking from, at least initially, but please don't feel bound by my choices. Cook from whatever you have that intrigues you!
The Great Big Pressure Cooker Book, Scarbrough & Weinstein: http://www.amazon.com/Great-Big-Press...
Pressure Perfect, Lorna Sass: http://www.amazon.com/Pressure-Perfec...
The Everything Healthy Pressure Cooker Cookbook, Laura Pazzaglia: http://www.amazon.com/Everything-Heal... (For anyone who is curious about this book: I find it really uninspiring and regret having bought it. Nevertheless, I own it and should either cook from it or get rid of it.)
Hip Pressure Cooking, Laura Pazzaglia: http://www.amazon.com/Hip-Pressure-Co... I thought I bought an electronic version of this, actually, but when I went to use it, something was amiss. So, I may or may not have this book and may or may not be cooking from it...
Note: while we will inevitably end up discussing the merits of various cookbooks and authors, this thread isn't intended to be for asking for cookbook recommendations. Rather, this is intended to be a gathering place for a communal cooking effort, where we report back on our specific experiences with specific pressure cooker recipes.
Also, if you'd like to use this thread to report back on using your Instant Pot in one of its other modes (rice cooker, slow cooker, yogurt maker, etc.) please feel free to report back on that here, too.
Please, jump on in! Let's have some fun with this!
