I want to get my boyfriend a cookbook for Christmas, and I'm having trouble finding just the right thing. His culinary hero is Chris Schlesinger, but he already has all of his books. He is interested in vegetable (not necessarily vegetarian, though that's okay too) cookery. Already has Peterson. He mentioned that he might like a high-end restaurant cookbook, which is the sort of thing I never buy - lot of pictures and inspiring recipes. I considered Charlie Trotter's Vegetables, but fear he would be put off by the many hard-to-find ingredients, particularly as he can be a bit rigid about substitutions. (Opposites attract, don't they? I can barely bring myself to follow a recipe; he follows to the letter.) Anyone have an inspired idea? Thank so much.
