I admit that I go through cookbooks like I do paper towels and if it wasn't for my local library I'd be much poorer. One thing that I'm noticing now in cookbooks, especially those from Food Network personalities, is that they're getting more and more insipid.
My favorite cookbook to rip on is the latest Tyler Florence one (Eat this Book). Everything from the cover (cool Tyler in a leather jacket walking through Chinatown) to the pre-recipe diatribes seem so contrived. But even worse, the pictures accompanying the recipes do not match with what is being done. For instance, a recipe for wontons calls for them to be folded into a half moon shape, but the wrappers in the picture are square. Another recipe calls for adding rosemary to a dish, in the picture it is thyme.
I'm curious to see if anyone else has come across cookbooks like this.
