To cook or not to cook (pizza sauce)?

Hello chowhounds, please help! I've got to make enough sauce for 20 people and a make-your-own pizza party. Is traditional sauce cooked or no? There are so many conflicting answers online! Uncooked whole peeled tomatoes plus salt and olive oil seems too good to be true. I know uncooked sauce is 'fresher' in taste, and I know, like most food (and life, lol) things, it 'comes down to personal preference...' But since I don't have the luxury of time and conducting a million experiments to find a personal preference, what are your favorite - and most authentic - recipes, and why do you choose to cook or no?
