We had a delicious Easter Day lunch yesterday at Convivio, at 104 City Hall Plaza, in Durham. Our meal included charcuterie, salad with burrata, three different house-made pastas, plus servings of fish and roast pork, plus perfect wine pairings with each course. We finished with a freshly-made crostata and espresso.
This restaurant is one of Durham's hidden gems. The food is spectacularly good and the wine list is truly first-class. Both exterior and interior dining -- well socially distanced -- is available. Coming soon is expanded outdoor dining.
Run by two Italians -- Paolo Gavazza, the Chef, and Giuseppe Cagnoni, the man at the bar -- Convivio (https://convivio.wine/) is the closest we can get right now to being in Italy.
Paolo is from Rome and is a graduate of Alma, a culinary school in Italy https://www.alma.scuolacucina.it/en/). Guiseppe is from Umbria and is a Master Butcher as well as a student of wines whose family has been in the restaurant business in Italy for 3 generations. His folks back home send him shipments of truffles regularly.
Giving them a try is definitely worth your time and treasure and will help Paolo and Guiseppi stay open during these difficult times -- please trust me on this!
