A Conversation With My Baja Housekeeper

She is also my friend.

(What follows is my bad translation of our conversation in Spanish, today.)

Amiga: "I have tamales for you, sweet and savory and a bottle of the hot sauce my mother makes that you like so much."

Me: (Squealing like a stepped-on cat with excitement.) "Oh, this is wonderful! Thank you so much!"

Amiga: "I have an upset stomach today, so I am only going to clean half your house. You are not going to pay me for today."

Me: "That's nonsense. We are going to pay you for today."

Amiga: "I can send my friend to finish the cleaning today."

Me: "No, please, it's OK, we will be fine until you are feeling better."

Amiga: "My house is full of people and it is very difficult. I am going to my father's house now so I can rest."

Me: "Please, go there and get some sleep and rest."

To keep this chow related, her tamales are the best I have ever tasted.
