If the crowd at Congee Village tonight is any indication they seem to be located far enough outside of Chinatown to escape the recent SARS related dining recession. It took over 45 minutes to get a table at 7:30.
Everything was pretty good but I think we ordered too many meat dishes when they usually do better with seafood. Short Ribs in black pepper sauce was rich, sweet, and tender but needed more spice. A pork casserole ended up being way more fatty than I'm used to eating. I probably used up my recommended yearly allowance of saturated fat in just a couple of bites. The salted chicken was really good though. They gave us a sweet and warm tapioca and taro soup as a complimentary dessert but it was pretty one dimensional. Overall it was a minor letdown but I'm hoping we ordered wrong and I'm anxious to go back at a less hectic time and order more seafood items.
