Confit stuck to pan -- how to clean?

I made onion confit in my Calphalon skillet a couple of days ago, promptly soaking it in warm water and detergent when I saw that the bottom was covered with burned-on onion matter. After two days of soaking and some hardcore scrubbing, I've managed to get about, oh, a sixth of the pan clean. The rest refuses to budge.

I cooked the onions in olive oil. Any ideas on how to get the stuff off?
