Confidence for beginner cooks

cook032003 | Oct 9, 201612:37 PM     35

I am a novice cook but I lack a lot of confidence in the kitchen. I know I am going going to require a lot of practice because I did not grow up learning to cook . I just want to know if anyone started out knowing absolutely nothing in the kitchen with no confidence ? What did you do to improve your confidence in the kitchen? My family complains and ask me why I don't cook but when I do cook nobody eats it and I feel embarrassed and ashamed . I have got compliments on my cooking from strangers and college friends but my family turns up they noise at most dishes I make so I just cook stuff I know I will be able to eat alone
