I like to think of myself as a chowhound, and am very much looking forward to my upcoming trip to N.O. I must confess that I have no experience with, and some intrepidation concerning, oysters (especially raw), rabbit, turtle soup and alligator. Can anyone offer recommendations about how to ease into any of these delicacies without embarassing myself or wasting good money/opportunity on a dish I won't be able to eat? I'm sure there are many dishes at all the restaurants I'll be going that I will enjoy, and I especially love seafood. However, I do want to expand my culinary horizons, and am taking the "When in Rome..." approach. If this helps, the restaurants I will be visiting are Herbsaint, Brigstens (maybe the rabbit gumbo? -- maybe seafood platter which contains some cooked oysters?), Lilette, Cuvee, La Cote (brunch) and Rene Bistro. Any other recommendations of what to order at any of these places would much appreciated. Thanks very much!!
