I have been visiting Krave, a new spot in downtown New Rochelle, for several months now, and I have tasted a variety of dishes. I must say, the flavors emanating from the kitchen at Krave are vibrant and compelling. Proprietor Chyrisse Crisp and Chef Chrissy have brought Westchester a fine, good looking Caribbean/Southern American restaurant loaded with comforts.
Last night we got there early for dinner and were greeted warmly. We ate at the bar. For our first course we decided to share a Krave Signature Salad, mixed greens, pistachio, cranberries, apples, topped with gorgonzola cheese. Enough for 2, it was fresh and delightful. As a main, we ordered 'Dutch Pot' Jerk Chicken, half chicken dry rubbed with house made jerk seasonings. It was served with rice and peas on the side, and we added a supplementary order of Sauteed Spinach. Well, you should have seen us! We went after those plates with gusto. The jerk chicken was outstanding, the skin, the tender meat, the soothing spice. Rice and beans and spinach were delish, too.
For dessert we got lucky. They had just prepared a fresh spongy Rum Cake with streusel & whipped. We shared a large flavorful portion.
On past visits we have enjoyed: Krave Jerk Wings, Cod Fish Cakes, Crab & Lobster Rolls, Lemon Pepper Calamari, and tender Brisket from their 'Off The Smoker' menu. This restaurant sends my palate in wonderful directions.
