Did our annual Holiday Christmas Tea at the Compass Rose room. Especially nostalgic since this was the last, given Michael Mina group has completed negotiations to take over space for new seafood restaurant (with tea to be served during day). Over the years, quality has steadily dwindled, but decided that despite having to make rez months ago and provide credit card as guarantee (with strict cancellation policy), we would do it for the last time. Unfortunately, after spending $100 for two---we are eager to bid the experience farewell. Very non-holiday/lack luster service, except for very rapid clearing of each plate almost before we finished and the check appearing way too soon, since turnover the name of the game. Food (tea sandwiches were awful, dry and tired with NO CUCUMBER SANDWICHES), scones were teeny, sweets non events---all non-descript and lacking flavor. Also, unlike years gone by, with choirs and very animated holiday feeling, this year there was "traditional" modeling of clothes from the store downstairs, that could only be described as unwearable except by the two models.Ahh, guess we will simply remember the "good old days". Sure Mina group will put more thought and energy into tea service, once established. David O'Malley, our favorite/the best from the better days at bacar will be running the new restaurant, so sure each detail will be given priority, including tea.
