Because I found myself down on Stone St for a mtg, I grabbed the chance to hit Adrienne's, at long last! Never get down there, so had to go for it. B/c it was 4pm, they wouldn't sell me square slices, so i had to get a 10in pie. I guess this probably changes the whole thing... I just got the Margarita, to keep it simple and b/c i was feeling the need for thrift. I loved the outer rim of crust, nicely salty and chewy. Sadly, the under part got soggy, which was odd b/c there was not enough sauce for my taste. I wished i'd gotten the tomato pie, as then there wouldn't have been SO much cheese. Don't get me wrong, I like cheese on a Marg pizza, but not to the point where it far outstrips the sauce in the ratio. If i were back down there again to meet this client, I'd give the tomato pie a try or hope I was down there before 2pm, when they stop selling the square.
Waldy's was much as I'd heard, cardboardy crust with great, fresh toppings. I had the mushroom, which also had red onion and a good amount of sauce. This pie was pretty salty too, but non-salty pizza isn't to my liking, so it was all for the good. The crust was for sure a disappointment, just crackerlike and blah. But the mushrooms were tasty, nice variety, and there wasn't too much cheese, so I was happy about that. I don't think I'd go back here, unless I was going to catch a train...after all, not much else that comes close to good (besides Korean of course!) in the Penn St area.
So, I was disappointed by Adrienne's and hope that someone here will tell me that the round pies just arent' as good and that I should schedule a midday meeting downtown soon!
