While sipping a Manhattan recently, I noticed that the cherry at the bottom -- a commercially produced maraschino -- had no hole from which a pit could have been extracted. I thought that was a bit odd, so yesterday a at the grocery store, I looked at a jar of them and couldn't see any holes in any of them either.
So my question is, how is that possible? Are there actually pitless cherry varieties, or have these somehow been resealed? I am in awe of the machine that can remove the pit without leaving a hole in the cherry!
