comforting things to drink/eat when you have the flu

I'm home with the flu and I wanted to share some comfort drinks I'm concocting to feel better. One thing that always makes me feel better is pear compote: simmer some pears very briefly (until they are tender but not falling apart) with some water, lemon peel and a little vanilla (optional). (My proportion: 3 pears, pared and quartered; one quart of water, 3-4 tbs sugar, 2 long strips of lemon peel -- today I used a Meyer lemon's peel from a friend's garden, so fragrant! 1/2 tsp vanilla, which I left out because of the Meyer lemon). I drink the liquid and eat the pears in bed and I feel almost cured.

Another recipe (this one my father's), which is best to do just before bed (Old World's Nyquil, I guess). In a small saucepan place two cups of red wine, about 1/4 cup sugar (or to taste), a cinnamon stick and some orange peel (if you have it). Simmer, uncovered, for a few minutes (I guess about 5-7 minutes). Then, light the wine with a match to remove the alcohol -- blue flames will appear and will die down on their own. Wait till the potion is cool enough to drink (it should be hot, but not painful), pour into a mug and drink. Go to bed, you'll feel fine in the morning.

Any other homemade cures for flu/colds you want to share?
