I have been visiting a friend in St. Luke's Hospital with a broken knee these last few days, and I have been strolling home down Amsterdam. Yesterday I passed the Columbia Cottage chinese restaurant at 111th and grabbed a takeout menu.
Most of their menu looks standard Chinese-American, but they have a section called "Shanghai Delight and Szechuan Delicacies" that is tempting. It includes, in addition to the mandatory juicy buns, jelly fish, double sauteed fresh bacon, lion's head, sea cucumber, eel, and fish head casserole, just to name a few items.
I have been able to find a few postings here about this restaurant, but none have really focused on this part of the menu. Has anyone tried these dishes? If so, how does the preparation compare to some of the better known shanghai or szechuan places?
