Just walked past College Bakery at 239 Court Street in Cobble Hill - no sign of life, a letter to the shop from a younger (former?) patron expressing how much they will miss the place displayed in the window.
Googling the bakery's name brought up the shop closed on July 2nd after 80 years, but no detail or background.
This was such a wonderful part of the neighborhood, it is so sad to see it gone. The pastries and cakes were not all that amazing (although I was quite partial to their black and white cookies) but it was solid, dependable and dirt cheap. They could have raised their prices three to five times before hitting going rates at other places in the area.
Anyone know the back story? Is this wonderful place really gone for good?
