Collapsing previously read posts?

LindaWhit | Jun 28, 2006 09:29 PM

Just had a thought - is there any way the software can "collapse" previously read posts in a thread?

For instance, let's say you've got a thread started about where to find the best dim sum in East Jibib, Wisconsin. 15 people have replied, and I've read 8 of them. But I see that there is a "NEW" next to the thread, meaning there are new replies. If *my* previously read replies (other than the original post) were collapsed and only the new ones were visible, that would make for quicker reading.

The previously read posts are a one-line item, so you know that rworange posted a reply at 1pm to galleygirl's original post about the best dim sum in East Jibib, but you don't have to scroll through rworange's post that you've already read - you can just see that Chris VR has responded since you last read the thread to rworange's post, OR that Chino Wayne has responded to galleygirl's original post.

Should you have the need, you could "uncollapse" a particular post, if the response was a bit unclear as to what it was referring to and re-read it. But only if needed.

Is that possible? (I hope I was clear in my explanation of collapsed posts.)
