Had our first experience at Cold Stone Ice Cream on 42nd St. on Saturday evening. There was a HUGE line outside but we were assured it would move quickly, and it did. While we waited, we were handed "menus" listing ice cream flavors, add-ins (LOTS of those!), and suggestions on combinations of flavors and add-ins. For those who remember Steve's Ice Cream, it's a real nostalgic kick to watch the scoopers mash the ice cream on the slabs; for the younguns, it's a fun novelty. I got French Vanilla ice cream with chocolate chips, roasted almonds and caramel--they squirt the caramel right into the mashed ice cream. The ice cream was incredibly rich, almost chewy--a SMALL serving was more than enough. I've been thinking about the place since then and I must admit I have a craving to go back for more!
