With so many Starbucks and a few Aroma locations closing, and shorter hours, I found myself frustrated while looking for coffee last Sunday, right at the corner near the HotDocs theatre and Pauper's Pub, which had an Aroma on the north side and a Starbucks on the south side.
In the Annex, The Common left its Annex location maybe 18 months ago. The Green Beanery closed.
The Slanted Door, which I find to be overpriced and mediocre, was closed, or maybe it's out of business.
Mallo, an indie coffee shop on Bathurst a block south of Bloor, had closed by 4 pm.
I'm not sure if Third Wave Espresso on Bathurst north of Bloor was open.
I walked west into Koreatown. The indie shops such as Rustle and Still, Nine Tails, the Ave Maria Latin Café (a Colombian shop with excellent coffee, some groceries, empanadas and baked goods https://www.avemarialatincafe.com/ ) and the Good Neighbour close by 4:30 pm. Understandably, since demand drops off, but frustrating when you're looking for a coffee after 4:30 pm.
I gave up after walking
past 5 closed indie coffee shops, and bought a bubble tea.
I realize Tim Hortons could be an option- but I wasn't going to walk to Christie for a Tim Hortons coffee.
Which are your current favourite Toronto coffee shops?
Which indie coffee shops are open after 5 pm?
I'm guessing some coffee shops with liquor licenses, such as Boxcar Social have longer hours.
