Gourmet Coffee Warehouse...
Four locations: 2 in Venice, 1 in Culver City, 1 in downtown.
We went to an unassuming little place in a Culver City mall, and I slowly realized that this was related to the gritty, charismatic little outpost on Rose ave in Venice. My cup of coffee was a fascinating -- I'd never get that blend again, but I admired it. So much flavor. Onion, earthy tastes. It was like a wine I didn't really care for but could appreciate. I'm not concerned, however, because they have at least a dozen coffees brewed at any one time.
This place is the real thing. They buy and roast their own beans, from places across the world I didn't even know made coffee. Their prices on specialty drinks are quite reasonable -- $2.95 for an excellent iced blended. Plus, their per pound prices seem quite good -- around $7 a pound for nearly all of their blends/sources.
