coconut boba with coconut jelly

first of all, thank you for all the concerned e-mails and messages I received. Nothing more serious than a cracked radiator in the Mojave desert coming back from some spring break backpacking in the Sierras. I have discovered, however, that the best preperation for trout involves catching it yourself and frying it by the river the morning AFTER having backpacked into the area with 40 pounds on your back over shifting hilly canyon-lands.

All right: boba. I've had a lot of boba, lately. There's a lot of crappy boba in SGB - flaccid boba. Lollicup is the standard - good, tasty, moderately mouth-happy boba. Best flavor: almond. The taro there is suffocatingly sweet - at least in the SGV branch by Mei Long Village.

I tried the konjac place by Mei Long Village. Pretty cool. The konjac is a neat texture, and the best part. The accompanying liquids/solids are kind of dull-tasting. I'm a red bean/green bean lover, and their cold red bean and green bean drinks lack a little in bean-y punch. But the fruity konjacs were cool.

Of all the boba joints in all the townships around here, the best by a big long shot has been Volcano Tea in Sawtelle. First of all - fine, firm, toothsome boba. The same pleasures as genuine al dente pasta. And with a pleasant, warm flavor.

And the most genuinely delicious liquids. Best of all:

2. Coconut milk tea with coconut jelly with boba. Fine fresh coconut flavor, and lovely coconut jellies. Two different chewies in one drink. Lovely.

1. Taro milk tea with boba. All I can say is: hell yeah.
