After reading the post earlier this week, we breakfasted at Cocka-Doodle this morning. Actually, it was after noon.
The room is very pleasant. I think they took over the old home of the crepe place (Tutati or something like that). The place was about half full. There's also a beautiful patio out back with a small fountain. Looks like a great place to eat on a beautiful day.
We went with classic breakfast orders - hubby had chicken sausage and eggs over easy with a biscuit. I had the same with bacon. There were slight glitches in the service - we were asked for drink orders right as we sat down, ordered lattes and then didn't get them until we asked when our food was brought. Then we didn't get our biscuits. Asked and was told they were still cooking. A moment later they arrived. Wonderful, perfect biscuits worth waiting for.
The home fries were very good as well, with some sauteed onion and a few scattered tomatoes. The fruit on the plate was inedible. Why do people feel they have to put canteloupes and strawberries, etc. when they're out of season? How about a tangerine or orange slices at this time or year?
We sat next to the big front window and read the paper while eating. Good light, friendly folks. Some good, soft norteno and salsa music in the background. All in all it was a very good experience and we'll be back....of course nothing could ever take the place of our beloved Caffe 817!!! But once every couple of months? Yes.
Oh yeah, it's right next door to the Friends of the Oakland Library store which is a great place to buy books! And for a good cause.
