cobras y matadors on Beverly

hellolizzie | Mar 18, 200601:15 PM

I have eaten at both locations in the recent past and have to say that for some reason the food at the Beverly location is better than the food at the Sunset location. Why is this? I have no clue. Maybe it was the company, maybe it was the beautiful bottle of 1999 Chateau Neuf du Pape one of my dining partners brought with us. Whatever the reason, wow, what a meal!

These are the dishes I tried:

sweet potato fries with two dipping sauces (heavenly, tracy would definitely marry these)

grilled squid in a kind of relish style sauce with anchovies and capers

lentils (I don't know what they do to those lentils, but they are crunchy, savory, salty, amazing)

grilled asparagus w/manchego cheese slivers (my favorite of the evening, I think I would marry these)

lamb chops (by the time I got to these there was no sauce left, but there were some green onions, very nice even sauceless)

huge prawns wrapped in bacon with a garlic cream sauce (good enough to inspire bigamy)

I realize that the crowded, loud, bustling atmosphere is part of the charm, but I found myself wishing that they had a private room, as we have a very special birthday coming up later this year. The service was a little slow, but friendly and with the pleasant company at our table I don't think the moderately paced service was ever an issue (after we started eating, that is!)
