Had an indulgent Tuesday night meal last night at Cobalt Tavern. Delicious from start (oysters) to finish (pot de creme). Was feeling very happy to have this restaurant as part of my SF choices, and reminded about how much I really do like this restaurant, even though it is not always top of mind when I am thinking of places to eat.
The chef, Guy Ferri, is about to make some MAJOR changes to this restaurant. Cobalt Tavern is going away. Last night will be on Saturday.
They will close for a couple of weeks, and reopen as the Washington Square Bar and Grill, restored to it's 1920's glory, with Guy Ferri as chef. He is committed to changing the menu back to it's old roots, without any hint of the Cobalt Tavern (wants the transformation to be complete). When I was mourning the loss of the delicious skate I had just eaten in a balsamic reduction, she said I may be seeing it as a Fish of the Day special at Washington Square, but not to expect it to be on the menu.
If you have any Cobalt favorites, be sure to try and get there by Saturday!
Looking forward to what this talented chef may bring us in a couple of weeks ... and keeping my fingers crossed that it will be great.
