Someone posted about this place awhile ago and I finally tried it, since it's in the neighborhood. It's at 233 River St., on the left as you head into Central Square from the river, phone 617-354-7644. You need to look for the place -- there are no other stores around -- and it's takeout only.

It's Southern food, and it's GOOOOOOOOD. I tried the smothered pork chop plate (breaded and smothered
w/gravy, peppers, and onions). It came w/2 sides -- I got the mac & cheese and mashed w/gravy. I also got 1 fried chicken breast as well, just to try it. They take the skin off the chicken before frying it, and it's not a heavy batter at all. The chicken was perfectly fried on the outside and moist and juicy within. It SOUNDS really heavy and greasy, and it COULD'VE been, but actually it's not greasy at all -- it's just, well, GOOD! The pork chops and sides were perfect as well (authentic, too).

It takes awhile to prepare because it's made to order. Service is really friendly. It's VERY reasonably priced -- the most expensive thing on the menu is $9.95 (grilled fish plate)

What's missing? Three things: (1) Brunswick stew, (2) corn fritters, and (3) red velvet cake.

I'm goin' back!
