Will coarse semolina work for Uppuma?

I've been reading World Vegetarian and have been thinking about making a basic uppuma to put underneath the curry my husband is making for dinner. I have what is labeled coarse semolina; I bought it in a Bangladeshi supermarket. Jaffrey says to use sooji. Is this what I have? Mine is no coarser than coarse cornmeal. Please advise.
