Closeby small town places where you like to eat for a mini roadie

One of our favourites is Hempstead, especially if you need driver's license renewal etcetera, a very small wait if at all. Krolzycks is on old 290 just before Hempstead at an Exxon, we get off at Hockley to avoid 290 and the rush. They have a nice little meat market where our real draw is the sausages in one of those rotating hot dog cookers. Good stuff and you might run into a Southern Pacific crew who have parked their train and come across the road for a sandwich. There's also Diliorio's for fresh in season produce.

We loved Hempstead Fried Chicken but I fear it has closed so for now it's Brookshire Brother's grocery if you hit it fresh.

We once went to Brenham for one of our favorite fried chicken places, notice a theme here, fried chicken small town places, found out it had turned Chinese. So we headed to the next town Giddings, and noticed San Marcos wasn't too far away with the great Gil's Fried Chicken.

Gil's delivered the taste and crunch as always and we decided to spend the weekend. Here's a great tip for you bamboozlers out there like myself. I didn't have my meds for this impromptu trip so I went to Walgreens, being out of refills they called the Doctor and I got multiple refills. Since then I have done this premeditated in Galveston and the Valley, always with multiple Rx refills. Nothing life threatening but the time and money spent the last couple of years at the Doc's and I'll cut a corner or two.

I've got many more ready to go. What are yours?
