I am looking for a place in Venice (secondarily MDR or SM) for dinner tonight where I can surreptitiously woo some fabulous silverlakers into moving to the west side; where we can be immersed the rich and bounteous west side "beach" and/or "art" culture, while still in chowhound compliance.
Joe's would be a great idea culture-wise but the price point is one notch above what would be appropriate on this occasion.
My prevailing idea so far is Hal's, although I live half a mile from there and have never been. Feedback on Hal's greatly appreciated!
I would have considered Menemsha were it still in business...has it been replaced yet?
There are some great sushi opportunities but actually I suspect one of the guests would not be a sushi fan (he's from Eastern Europe).
And there is some chance that the guests will have a stroller containing a well-behaved infant with them...basically that means there needs to be some space between tables and that it shouldn't be an extraordinarily quiet or romantic joint.
Thanks, I know I can count on you! :)
