Cleopatra on Manhattan (Westbank) and Oasis Pastries

Hungry Celeste | Nov 22, 200408:38 AM     3

Wandered into Cleopatra on Manhattan (S of Lapalco) this weekend; good middle eastern in a comfortable, clean, setting (a storefront in a recently sprouted strip mall). Menu has all the usual stuff, including chicken & beef shawarma, kabobs, etc.

Even more interesting is the middle eastern pastry shop just a few doors down from Cleopatra: Oasis Pastries. Mamoul, baklava, and lots of other stuff I can't name (date-filled cookies rolled in pistachios, butter cookies with sesame seeds, syrup-drenched fried dough, semolina cakes, etc). The pastries are sold by the pound, and the bakery does catering/large orders. It just opened up in early November; also serves espresso and some other beverages. Has a few eat-in tables; mostly takeout.
