Cleo - surpisingly good Mediterranean food in an SBE hotel

Ciao Bob | Sep 27, 201012:47 PM     1

I haven't heard/read much about Cleo and assumed it would be lousy given the pedigree (other than Bazaar, SBE other food ventures --XIV included-- have not been my cup of cha). I was brought there prior to a concert and really enjoyed almost all of the mezze.
A few real standouts:
-- brussel sprout dish with the sprout leaves removed and stir fried with alot of yumminess was like eating really good pita chips, you can't stop.
-- very tasty falafel (a bit underdone but I like 'em that way)
-- kibbeh yummy, dry and flavorful
-- homemade bread
-- dolomites - really yummy
A few bombs:
-- terrible overcooked octopus
-- hummos - so-so
-- carrot harissa dip - could have benn far zingier but was bland
-- flatbreads - way too heavy artichoke flatbread

Overall for a new place the execution was sharp and most flavors scored with me and 5 friends.

Cocktails, especially something called Grapes of Wrath, also quite strong.
