Clearing Plates While Still Eating

ForkinMouth | Jan 27, 2003 12:34 PM

A pet peeve of mine is the now almost universal occurrence in restaurants of clearing away one diner's plate before the rest of the table is finished eating their meals. Although perhaps well-intentioned, this practice rushes the meal and conveys the not so subtle message to clear out! While this has always been noted,to some extent, in less ambitious restaurants, it is now commonplace in most of the so-called upper-end restaurants as well. While one should not "overstay", neither should diners be rushed, especially when they are stil eating (rather than lingering)....most wait staffs and front-end managers are clueless on this point or worse yet, simply don't care.
