New England Hound heading in to the Newport Beach & Laguna area at the end of a "Route 66" type of road trip where we limit ourselves to back roads and classic, old-school eateries. No chains. If the establishment is shaped like the food that it serves, even better! I'm looking for some suggestions for lunches at or around the pier and beach area of Newport Beach, and the Laguna Beach areas. All cuisines considered, but the places suggested should (hopefully) have some history behind them, and serve the kind of food (eat-in or walk-away) that locals have enjoyed for years. Zagat and Mobil reviews be damned. We are looking for history and a sense of place. Thanks.
