Clark's Outpost Update

Kirk | Mar 17, 2003 01:19 PM

Stopped by Clark's Outpost in Tioga yesterday, on our way to the Johnson Branch State Park mountain bike trail (which is awesome, btw). I'm afraid I have to echo the opinions expressed here a few months ago. It was decent barbecue, but certainly not among the best. Very little smoke flavor; brisket was tender, but tasted like it had been marinated in Italian dressing and cooked in the oven (no pink ring), and the ribs had a tell-tale taste to them that made me think they had been parboiled before being put on a grill. Equally appetizer, two combination lunches and two soft drinks came to $40. Next time we go mountain-biking at Ray Hubbard Lake, we're bringing a picnic lunch.

One nice eccentricity: When we drove into the parking lot, a helicopter had just touched down on the other side of the street. The two guys inside copter turned off the engines, locked the doors, walked across the street and sat down at the table next to us, as if this were something they do every Sunday. I told the pilot I thought he definitely got the prize for "Coolest Car in the Parking Lot"!
