Okay folks, I'm going to try again.
We are headed down Hwy 61 for the first time(as opposed to our usual fast interstate route). The occasion is my 60th birthday. My wife is taking me to Austin.
Other than reading, I know nothing about local eats on Hwy 61. Nor in Austin (I have posted a similar message on the Austin site). I have a copy of Southern Belly (purchased on the advice of chowhound posts for trips to NC). We want to explore great local places throughout this trip.
We love BBQ; Cajun (gumbos, etoufees, boudin);seafood; Mexican; and just about anything interesting in food or music.
We are primarily interested in great food at casual restaurants/cafes/bars. At the same time, we would not be adverse to something upscale and creative, as long as it reflected local produce.
On our way to Austin we will also spend some time in Baton Rouge and Lafayette, LA.I know a bit about Louisiana. However, I welcome any and all recommendations.
A couple of specific questeions:
Is Morgan Freeman's place in Clarksdale really good, or does it just have a famous owner?
What about Doe's in Greenville? I don't normally go out for steak. We can do that at home. Yet, I see it referenced so often. Must be something there.
Thank you in advance for any and all advise.
