Hubby and I went to try Second City Bistro in El Segundo, which is a block off Main near Grand.
It was really good! It's a cute place with brick walls, dark wood accents, and thousands of tiny white lights strung along the ceiling. They have a heated outdoor patio, and both tall and regular tables inside, as well as a wine bar area.
They have wine tastings on Monday nights, and were advertizing a 5-course meal with wine pairing for this Thursday.
We sat out on the patio, and were even able to see Orion in the sky. Bread and herbed butter were served first. They have quite a few wines, and a good number by the glass. And they are healthy servings of wine, too.
Hubby had a crab and brie stuffed trout with veggies and potatoes. The flavors went together very well. I had a filet (medium rare) with a raspberry peppercorn sauce served over wilted spinach and mashed potatoes. Prices ranged from $15-ish to $25-ish per entree.
Instead of having dessert there, we walked over to Coldstone (as a b-day treat for me). There was a guy out front of the Coldstone playing guitar and singing with an amp set up on the little patio. So we sat with our icecream to listen for a bit. It turns out he is the owner of the store, and he gets together with some of his buddies to sing and jam on Wednesdays.
It was an extremely pleasant evening.
