City Bakery - An Observation

Jon | Jun 1, 2004 04:54 PM

I popped into the City Bakery on West 18th Street last week for coffee and was surprised at how dirty everything was. The tables downstairs were taken as usual (do people spend their entire afternoons there hoping for a pick up?) so I went upstairs to the balcony area. Well every table was dirty, spilled coffee, empty bottles, dirty food trays left on the banquettes. I finally decided to sit on the stools and have my coffee counter-style. The floors are also looking so dirty and worn and the general sh*t-brown decor of the place has to be the most depressing in town. After paying $4 for bitter tasting coffee and an half-cooked choc chip cookie, I thing I will skip this place until they spiff things up a little.
