Citizen Cake- new chef

Hello again--

ok, we went to dinner with a friend and her relatives to Citizen Cake a few weeks ago...I didn't know there was a new chef and we (my gf and I) were lamenting the fact that they had chosen Citizen Cake, now mind you we hadn't eaten dinner there but its like ordering mexican food at a steak place, usually doesn't turn out well...

I can't begin to tell you how great the service was and then the food was really great...On the service, usually we are running in to pick up dessert and are typically shuttled along with the rest of the lower lifes who are just tipping in for pick up desserts, not the best impression when you're considering forking out $100 on a full meal....

But onto the real deal:

To start, my gf and I both had the soup du jour,it was refreshing and light even though it was a cream based potato soup, very delicious.

For main entree I had the halibut and my gf had the steak, mignon I believe, I can't remember exactly but I do recall that we were both shocked, the fish was succulant and her steak was simple but cooked to perfection...so often her meats are either running with blood or a little dry, this seemed to be perfection...also the sides (?? not really sides per se) that came with the entrees were excellent. The portions were ample and nothing was overwhelmingly complicated...

I find that gary dankos food, although truly some of the most exceptional food i have ever had (I almost hate to call it food, seems to simple for what they do there) can be too much, too complicated, so many flavors and sensory overload, which is great every so often but I think CC is a perfect place for a once a month meal out...Danko would be a once every 6 months (plus it gives the menu time to rotate)....

Then of course the desserts were over the top, I had the brulee and my gf had the apple dessert (bonus was the candied bacon, which she is crazy about) which was delicious....everyone at the table actually had dessert and of course it was exceptional. But again, so was the rest of the meal, and we were just totally suprised....

So I didn't know they had a new chef going into the meal, and I didn't have the food there before this chef but we will definately be going back for a dinner time meal again !!
