ok, a quick note on our chowdown here. windy, arrigo, ch addict, nooodles and a couple of her friends met at 641 vallejo near columbus. we had

apps

insalata melanzane

carpaccio

cauliflower and ginger torte

primi

pizza with sausage

gnocchi in pesto sauce

Cannelloni con Astice - lobster cannelloni

Tagliolini Manarola - homemade spaghetti-like pasta w/seafood in a tomato sauce.

and arrigo brought a colorfully named italian wine, which was surprisingly tasty and fruit forward.

in general, it was good food, reasonably priced, with attentive service. however, for me, the only dish which really raised my eyebrows was the cauliflower. the texture was moist and creamy, and it was replete with sweet cauliflower essence. this, accompanied by the high ginger note in the background formed a surprisingly sonorous chord.
it was also served with two grilled whole shrimp, but i didn't get a bite of them til later. in fact i didn't miss the shrimp, cuz the dish was so soothing and satisfying without it.

i also liked the texture of the downy gnocchi and the homemade tagliolini, but in general i felt that the sauces sat a bit ponderously upon the pastas. it's possible that they were just a bit too salty as well.

the pizza was ok, but this aint no a16.

our table was a bit crowded, but the friendly staff helped us manage the dishes expeditiously to keep the table uncluttered.

it sounds a bit repetitive, but what i really enjoyed most was dining in the company of the old and new chows.
