This is my first post, but I've been meaning to share this for months. NYC's (if not the east coast's) best pastry cinnamon buns/rolls can be found fresh each morning at PIECE OF CAKE bakery on Lexington Ave. between 90th and 91st Street. They are really exceptional (light, flakey on the outside, chewey in the center, with just the right amount of sugar icing. A bargain at $2.00 each. The bakery/cafe opened about 18 mos. ago and bakes a wide variety of incredibly fresh items (croissants, cakes, muffins, brownies, cookies, etc.). They also have excellent (but not cheap) sandwiches. I live around the corner and can vouch for their consistency. A young guy named Fred manages the counter & his wife does all the baking in the back. PIECE OF CAKE is the closest thing I've found to a reincarnation of Patisserie BONTE, the classic 3rd Ave. French pastry shop that Anne Taylor's aggressive expansion put out of business several years back.
