i checked out past threads on the msg board regarding cider doughnuts in nyc, but having not found conclusive answers, i thought i'd raise the issue again. and since they're in season now, i thought there might be some new sightings.
i'm familiar with the doughnut plant on the LES and of course krispy kreme, but i'm looking instead for the type of cider doughnuts found in many farm stands upstate. any word on if and where these can be found within the city? i've tried some cider donuts from the union square and prospect park green markets, but they've been excessively firm and lack those essential grains of sugar that fall off in your hands. 'home' restaurant's kitchen outpost on bleecker st used to sell some good cider donuts, but that store closed a couple yrs ago. any advice?
