Cicero's pizza in Cupertino

Celeste | Nov 12, 200410:01 PM

I had never heard of this place but found myself down in Cupertino for work today and a colleague who lives down there insisted this was great pizza.

I consider myself a bit of a pizza fanatic and jumped at the bait.

He was right! The pizza is fantastic. It's very thin crust style, with sauce and toppings to almost the very edge. Their sausage pizza is a revelation - very fine crumbs of sausage all over the pizza. I have never had any sausage pizza like it. Order the sausage pizza plain, with just sausage on it. Trust me!

Apparently it's "upstate new york" style pizza. The only pizza I've had that is sort of similar is Aurelio's pizza in Flossmoor, IL. But I guess that's becuase I've never been to upstate New York. :-)

Anyways, I guess it was in existence for 30 years on Stevens Creek Blvd, closed in 2001, reopened within the last year or so on Bollinger Rd.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Worth a swerve over there if you are in the neigbhorhood. They only serve pizza, pizza, and more pizza, and small side caesar or iceberg house salad. Beers on tap. Sodas in cans.

The new location is in a strip mall and the ambiance is strip-mall antiseptic, but they have articles and other memorabilia on one wall that harkens back to when they had their prior location.

Also, beware that the prior location on Stevens Creek is now run by some unrelated people under the same Cicero's banner but apparently with a much inferior product. The real deal run by the original family is the Bollinger Road location.
