Chutney Review (short)

CC | Jul 25, 2005 02:59 AM

7 of us hit Chutney over on Jones Street tonight, and it was even better than the last time we were there. We must have ordered close to 10 dishes, and everything was really quite good.

All of the following are highly recommended, well-flavored:
*Chicken Curry
*Lamb Curry - this was really delicious, lamb cooked perfectly
*Chicken Vindaloo - nice and hot
*Chicken Tikka Masala - rich, creamy and a little bit of spice
*Chicken, Vegetable Biryani - slightly greasy but delicious
*Tandoori chicken - super moist and flavorful

The samosas were pretty standard, and the Naan was not quite as good as I've had in the past, a little doughy. Side sauces (sweet and hot) were above average.

The service is pretty bare-bones but they were very nice and the bill was absurdly inexpensive. Chutney was far better than many other Indian places I've been to that cost 2x as much money. It is undoubtedly superior to Naan and Curry and the flavors are a lot more complex than Shalimar - and I Iike Shalimar. Highly recommended.
