Churrasco at El Malecon

Ian | May 24, 2004 05:17 PM

Had the churrasco (grilled skirt steak) at El Malecon last week for the first time and it was out of this world and a great deal to boot. (El Malecon's on the west side of Amsterdam around 98th street.)

For just $13 the steak was tender, almost perfectly cooked (asked for medium rare), well spiced and large. It comes with choice of one of 4 or 5 different sides (yellow rice and black beans for me were both fine) and a cup of thin, vinegar-based homemade steak sauce that was an excellent companion to the spices on the meat.

A side order of maduros ($2 for a nice sized dish) were a bit soggy but very tasty. Throw in an El Presidente for $3 and you have a great meal for $18. The total bill for two people was $27.50 and we were stuffed. Check it out if you can.
