Churrascaria Plataforma review

AssociEat | Feb 2, 2005 10:00 AM

I ate at Plataforma last night because a friend had never been. I end up at this place twice a year or so, and my thoughts are always the same: maybe a good place for a group but really not good enough quality for the price.

For some reason, I hit the salad bar a little harder than sound strategy dictates, which is to say that I hit it at all. I had shrimp and marinated octopus. The shrimps were small and basically tasteless. The pieces of octopus really varied. Some were tasty; more were not. I can't really figure out why that was.

On to the meat. Here's what passed by my table. But first, I must note that a meal at Plataforma is perhaps the saltiest you'll ever eat. Be warned.

Sausage: Yummy
Chicken: Tasted like a decent enough piece of bird, but eating this is really a waste of space
Prime rib: Best offering that night. Beautifully red, lovely flavor
Flank steak: Tasteless
Sirloin: Tasteless on the first piece, only slightly better on the second
Pork loin: Decent, but the subtle flavor of pork is lost as part of a churrascaria onslaught
Turkey wrapped in bacon: Mmm, bacon
Beef ribs: Beefy, somewhat tasty
Pork ribs: Very fatty (actually, everything is very fatty, but you can cut around it easily)

There was probably more, but I can't remember. Caiparinha was tasty.

Overall, I was quite disappointed, especially with the flank steak and the sirloin. I'm sure I will return, because someone always wants to go, but that someone won't be me.

$150 for two with tax and tip. It would be tough to get out of there for less.
