The Church Restaurant in Strarford

I’ve only been back in Canada for a few weeks and have been spending most of my time with family and friends. Sister and I thought it would be nice to take our mother to Stratford last weekend. We made reservations at the Church restaurant and purchased tickets for a show the previous week. To be honest I don’t care much for theater but I do love food. Now I was last at this restaurant five years ago and still remember what I had to eat the course layout the wine everything that’s how amazing it was. The level of food being produced by the chef and his kitchen staff was on par with michelin star establishments in Europe and Hong Kong that I’ve had the privilege of working and eating in. To say the least I was really looking forward to our meal.

I would like to write a glowing review of my return to the Church…but I can’t. The only words that come to mind are the filthy stories cooks share with other cooks about bad restaurants. Very poor cooking techniques, bland, and dated food. The menu was some cross between gastro pub and crappy continental hotel food….that’s about as nice as I can word it.
Not sure what happened here but it’s a real shame to see a place like this fall to that level.
