Mexican markets in the Salinas Valley are stocked up on the ingredients for making Christmas ponche, a traditional Mexican beverage for the holiday.

Here's a recipe from my friend. She suggests using as little added sugar as you can to let the natural flavors shine through. While I've enjoyed ponche many times, this year will be my first try at making it.
