chowish weekend: M&M ribs, Best Little restaurant, Pleasant Cafe

While my wife was at a yoga retreat, i sought my own nirvana, feeding my inner hound. Thursday night I stopped at the M&M truck (hampden and norfolk). I'd had their BBQ ribs and fried wings before and thought they were excellent. This time both were a cut below. The wings were small and the ribs tough without a good a smoky flavor. Collards were nice but yams were too sweet. Very disappointing. Best Little restaurant (formerly Ho Yuen Ting) in Chinatown was excellent. I tried a couple of new dishes for me: pei pa tofu was beautifully fried but underseasoned. Chef special fired bean thread was outstanding. This is a bean thread noodle (fun see) dish fried with ground pork, bean sprouts and egg sometimes called Ants climbing in trees. I remember my grandmother making this dish but this was even better. Finally I had the prime rib special at Pleasant Cafe (Washington street in Roslindale). A generous slab medium rare with baked potato and salad for $12.75. It was a deal and the place was hopping for the Red Sox and Bruins on multiple screens. Lots of folk ordered the pizza and it smelled very good. Their pizza has been recommended on this board and I will try it next time.
