I just returned from an extended weekend in New York, and thanks to the Chowhounds of this board, I indulged in some sublime dining. Namely, Grand Sichuan Intl., Lombardi's Pizza, and the famous/infamous Peter Luger's. I would have known of none of these if it hadn't been for this board. Of course, now that I've returned to the "low country" (the environs of Ft. Myers, FL), I can never truly enjoy local pizza, Chinese, or steak again.
As for Peter Luger's, I survived. I went at about 2:30 last Thursday, and the place was mobbed, but I got a table (without a reservation, no less) in about 20 minutes. The service was fine, if harried. The waiter kept apologizing for "ignoring" me, even though he was by every five minutes or so. Certainly no worse than I'd gotten in similarly crowded places.
